(Studio) After Reagan rejects Schweiker offer to step off ticket, 2 go to campaign appearance hoping to stop Ford momentum.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner

(Kansas City, Missouri) Reagan visits Kansas delegation, most of whom are Ford supporters [SCHWEIKER - says as result of Tuesday vote on 16C, he feels Reagan should be considered by delegates as alone, as Ford is, not on ticket.] [REAGAN - says he refused offer; that it's matter of principle.] Some Reagan supporters upset by refusal. [Florida Reagan chairperson L.E. "Tommy" THOMAS - says believes acceptance of Schweiker offer would turn things around.] Reagan says he won't be Vice Presidential candidate. [REAGAN - says he can work better for causes he believes in doing previous job.]
