(Studio) Ford shows no worry over reports earlier in week with regard to golf date with lobbyist and campaign financing in congress campaigns. Carter also prepares for debates, but can't shake off controversy surrounding him.

(Plains, Georgia) Reporter notes Carter's appearance and mood today. [CARTER - says he doesn't want to discuss "Playboy" article. Says he doesn't think it's hurt any.] Backlash from article may affect Carter's attitude during debate; image outlined by television adviser calls for natural self-confidence from Carter. [TV adviser Barry JAGODA - says plan is for Carter to be himself and this is reason they're confident they'll do well.] Doing well may now be crucial for Carter.
