(Studio) President Richard Nixon wins landslide victory in bid for reelection, with 45,861,690 popular votes, or 61%, to Senator George McGovern's 28,402,465, or 38%; John Schmitz's 1,047,030, or 1%; and Benjamin Spock's 73,678, or less than 1%. (98% votes counted) Nixon gets 521 electoral votes; McGovern 17 (winning Massachusetts and DC). Democrats gain 2 Senator seats, lose only 12 seats in House Associated Press reporter calls victory Nixon's lonely landslide.
