(Studio) Treasury Department mails $2.5 billion to cities and states in revenue sharing funds.
REPORTER: John Chancellor
(DC) Funds expected to be used for schools, libraries, police stations, roads, etc. [Undersecretary Treasury Charles WALKER - says spending will be monitored carefully. Many communities no better off for revenue sharing, because federal grants reduced in many cases. [Treasury spokesperson James SMITH - says regrets some mistakes made in 1st calculations.] Many areas unhappy with what they're getting.
