(Studio) What happened in Bangladesh will never be forgotten there, especially by the women.
REPORTER: Garrick Utley
(Dacca, Bangladesh) A 16 year old widow, pregnant after being raped by West Pakistani soldier, exemplifies national problem in Bangladesh. Her husband was a Mukti Bahini leader when West Pakistanis came for him, they raped her in front of him. Now she is disgraced. No man will ever marry her. Govt. sponsored rehabilitation group cares for many such women, some only 13 years old. Parents and husbands reject them. 70 have had abortions, others plan to give babies away. Some were forced to live in West Pakistani barracks, and some nights 30 or more soldiers forced selves on one girl. Sheik Mujibur Rahman says these women are heroines, but they and the children are innocent victims of war.
