(Peking, China) President and Mrs. Nixon host farewell banquet for Chinese leaders in Great Hall of the People. Atmosphere somewhat cooler than formerly. [NIXON - speaks of removing wall between United States and China. Toasts Chairperson Mao, Premier Chou, people of 2 countries, and hope of peace for children.] [CHOU - says honest discussions have led to clearer understanding of positions between United States and China. Pledges China's efforts for normalization of effects between United States and China. Toasts friendship between 2 countries.] Toasts did not reveal much about secret talks, but cautious air in which they were given implies talks aren't producing much.
