(Studio) Berrigan trial ends; jury undecided on major charge of conspiring to kidnap Henry Kissinger, raid draft bds., and blow up Washington, DC heating systems. Jury convicts Reverend phi lip Berrigan and Sister Elizabeth McAlister for smuggling letters out of and into Lewisburg prison. Judge River Dixon Herman dismisses jury.

(Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) Foreman Harold Sheets hands verdict to court clerk, deadlocked on major charge. [Sister Elizabeth MCALISTER - considers results a victory as it came despite shoddiness exhibited by judge and Justice Department in trial. Praises jury.] Prosecutor William Lynch won't say if retrial will be requested. FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover showed interest in results of trial.
