(Studio) North Vietnam attack Kontum in South Vietnam central highlands for 5th day.
REPORTER: Garrick Utley

(Kontum, South Vietnam) Kontum has ceased to function as a city; almost everything is closed. There is very little food. People want to leave, but there is no easy way out: airfields, rds., controlled by North Vietnam. Refugees crush to board evacuation copters.

(Kontum, South Vietnam) Panic spreads easily in tense city. Air drops of supplies made in, refugees out.

(Studio) An Loc also under enemy siege. For 7 weeks, South Vietnam convoy has been trying to reach city, but have been overly cautious about pushing up Highway 13. Enemy artillery barrage hits convoy.

(Highway 13, South Vietnam) South Vietnam push to relieve An Loc has completely bogged down. Tanks and troops have not moved for 2 weeks, and are reluctant to do so now. Refugees steadily stream out of Communist-held areas. Many civIlians have died.
