(Studio) Defense Department says United States Marines may be sent back to South Vietnam to protect withdrawing United States troops.
REPORTER: Garrick Utley

(DC) Pentagon changes United States policy in Vietnam. When North Vietnam invasion was launched, Secretary of State William Rogers and Defense Secretary Melvin Laird said ground troops would not be reintroduced. Now Defense Department spkman. Jerry Friedheim will only say United States ground combat will not be resumed. General Abrams free to use any measure to protect remaining United States forces. Nuclear bombs are only measure now ruled out.
