(Studio) Truce in North Ireland goes into effect tonight. Violence reported in hrs. preceding: Newry policeman killed, British troops fired on, bombs explode. IRA (Irish Republican Army) truce may end violence.

(Belfast, North Ireland) Protestants and Catholics are tired of violence. British government has paid out $30 million in last 3 years to people who have lost property in violence. 1500 bombs have gone off since 1970. 100 British soldiers have died, 30 policemen, 270 civilians.
