(Studio) In Richmond, Virginia, United States Court of Appeals declares controversial school merger plan invalid. It would have merged school systems of Richmond, and Chesterfield and Henrico counties for racial integration. Court says there is no evidence 3 systems were set up intentionally for segregation.

(Richmond, Virginia) Richmond School Bd. wants consolidation and busing for desegregation. [Richmond School Bd. President, Mrs. West Hamilton CROCKFORD III - says board will ask legal counsel to appeal to Supreme Court] Decision has only limited bearing on cases in Detroit, Michigan; Indianapolis, IN; Hartford, Connecticut; and elsewhere.
