(Studio) More than 400 men trapped in Rhodesian coal mine at Wankie are dead. Fewer than 10 miners escaped.

(Wankie, Rhodesia) Rescue workers pump out poison gas left by Tuesday explosion in mime. Miners, mostly black Africans, trapped 7000 feet inside mine. They are almost certainly dead. Other workers call strike, fearing to go into other mines in field. 1000 African women kept at distance by police.
