(Coachella, California) Chavez's union first to organize farm labor. 85% growers sign contracts with rival Teamsters Union. Chavez has backing from national AFL-CIO. Chavez has traditionally relied heavily on effectiveness of consumer boycott; is likely to do so again in effort to save his union.
