(Studio) Govt. promises additional gasoline to 20 states hard hit by shortage. Federal energy director William Simon makes announcement; states named and their increase in allocation reviewed.
REPORTER: John Chancellor
(DC) After meeting with President, Simon explains new allocation move. [SIMON - says government may take same action next month if figures show need for more fuel.] Speaks of gasoline rationing. [SIMON - believes gasoline rationing won't be needed after new allocation system begins.] Gasoline to be taken from existing supplies; reasons for action reviewed.
