(Studio) Colonel Oran Henderson acquitted 3 years ago of wrongdoing with regard to My Lai massacre.
REPORTER: Floyd Kalber
(Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania) Film of My Lai massacre shown. Henderson took over 11th infantry brigade day before massacre. [HENDERSON doesn't really know what happened to cause My Lai massacre.] Henderson charged with covering up atrocity. [In 1971, after acquittal, HENDERSON - said he would think on matter before making decisions about future.] Henderson now commands Indiantown Gap military reservation. Henderson followed by shadow of My Lai. Henderson's career in Army at an end; forever tainted by My Lai. Henderson to retire. [HENDERSON - loves Army.] Present job doesn't fill his days. [HENDERSON - says he's not bitter, only disappointed. Says anything like My Lai inconceivable.] Questioned about what country can learn from My Lai and Vietnam. [HENDERSON - thinks American should explore moral issues of war before engaging country in war.]
