(Studio) Senator John McClellan's defense appropriations subcommittee recommends $5 billion cut in defense budget. In Monday speech, Ford asked for strong defense and rebirth of Cost of Living Council

(DC) Congress probably won't pass national health insurance bill or cut budgets like Ford wants. [Senator John TOWER - fears a lot to come out of defense budget.] [Representative Al ULLMAN - says cut could be $10 billion; expects $3 billion.] Ford asked for trade bill passage; but Congress won't pass it unless USSR easier on Jews who want to emigrate. Compromise to be worked out.
