(Studio) Associated Press reports Vice President Gerald Ford told staff there would be smooth and orderly transition.

(Alexandria, Virginia) Ford leaves home for office before 8:00 a.m. Staff working on inauguration speech, Vice President nominees and assignments for White House Ford presents medals of honor posthumously to 7 Vietnam troopers in ceremony. Later, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger calls on Ford. Ford expected to keep members of Nixon staff for time except Ron Ziegler. Elliot Richardson, Melvin Laird, Nelson Rockefeller considered Vice President candidates.
