(Studio) Haldeman and Ehrlichman said to have tried earlier to escape prosecution.

(DC) Pair said to have sought Nixon pardon before he resigned, linked to amnesty for Vietnam war draft evaders. Haldeman, said spokesperson for all Watergate defendants, called Alexander Haig. No arm-twisting or blackmail implied. Answer was "No"; Nixon in dither. Not first time pardon discussed.
