(Studio) John Dean, former White House cnsl. whose testimony broke open Watergate scandal, makes another serious accusation today. Dean believes Richard Nixon thought Supreme Court would rule in his favor in matter of White House tapes. Dean claims he's been told Nixon's confidence based on conversations with Chief Justice Warren Burger; spns. for Burger and Nixon deny Dean's story and court record shows it ruled against Nixon. Dean gives NBC's Carl Stern 1st lengthy interview since his release from jail last wk.

(Los Angeles, California) Dean says he learned much from Charles Colson. [DEAN - says Nixon thought precedence and conversations with Chief Justice Burger would assure him of favorable court ruling with regard to White House tapes. Learns this information from Colson.] Dean questioned about slush fund collected by Bebe Rebozo. [DEAN - refuses to discuss matter because it's still under investigation. Admits knowledge of some excess Nixon funds; details given.] Stern questions Dean about CIA breaking into Chilean embassy. [DEAN - says Colson read CIA file on Watergate. CIA thought Dean had knowledge of Chilean embassy break-in, but he really didn't. Bug did exist in Chilean embassy.] FBI has no comment on Chilean break-in. Burger denies spking. with Nixon about any subject in `73 or `74.

(Studio) From New York studio John Chancellor questions Stern about Dean's believability. [STERN - admits Dean has good track record for accuracy.] Questioned about Chilean embassy break-in. [STERN - says rumors of 4 break-ins exist; government properties entered during time Marxist President Allende in power.] Questioned about Dean's plans for future. [STERN - says Deans to leave for vacation at week's end. Both Mr. and Mrs. Dean to sign book contracts soon and later go on lecture circuit together. Dean worries about making money out of Watergate, but admits many bills must be paid.] Praises Stern for getting interview. Dean's story about Chief Justice and Nixon to be repeated in book; Dean likely to be asked about matter in upcoming press conference
