(Studio) In recent newspaper interview, Senator Edward Zorinsky says upon taking office he found Senator so steeped in trivia, he almost quit. (Interview with Zorinsky shown.)

(DC) Reporter asks with regard to Zorinsky's remark that Senator geared to reelection. [ZORINSKY - cites recent vote on government pay increase as example of Senators thinking only of own political life.] Reporter notes Zorinsky must have known of some conditions before coming to Senator [ZORINSKY - says knowing about it and being part of it 2 different things.] Reporter asks what form Senator patronage takes. [ZORINSKY - describes patronage jobs available and his objections to system.] Reporter asks what colleagues' reaction has been. [ZORINSKY - says many have told him they feel same but didn't have courage to say it.]
