(Studio) Director CIA William Colby calls press conference in try to stop Senate Intelligence Committee from publishing report on CIA and assassination plots. Colby asks that names of CIA members involved not be revealed. REPORTER: John Chancellor
(Langley, Virginia) Senate committee earlier agreed to withhold names of 20 CIA members [COLBY - says named agents could be faced with retaliation.] Committee chairperson Senator Frank Church calls Colby's actions 11th-hr. appeal to stop publication. Senator to get report Thursday and then be made public. Group studies effect report will have on national security. Could hurt United States relations with allies, but won't damage detente and may clear air on messy situation.
