(Studio) President Carter has reduced sentence of Watergate figure G. Gordon Liddy, whose wife Frances is Washington, DC school teacher.
REPORTER: Barbara Walters
(Poughkeepsie, New York) Judge John Sirica's stiff sentence of Liddy noted; Mrs. Liddy learned of commutation after leaving Pennsylvania's Allenwood Prison. [Frances LIDDY - cites reaction to radio announcement.] Reporter asks if Sirica's sentence vindictive. [Mrs. LIDDY - notes effect of children losing father; believes more equitable sentence would have been fair.] Reporter asks if she ever wanted to tell husband to talk with regard to Watergate. [Mrs. LIDDY - says yes, but each person must do as he feels is right; bites husband's reaction to own feelings.] Is asked about fine. [Mr. LIDDY - says neither she nor husband has money; attys. will handle it.] Reporter asks what next. [Mrs. LIDDY - will go home to prepare for husband.] REPORTER: Bernard Shaw
