(Studio) Unemployment rate holds steady for February at 8.2%. Rate same because more than 1/2 million people stop looking for work. Unemployment rate for heads of hseholds. stands at 5 1/2%. Joint economy committee meets to discuss unemployment problem.

(DC) [Senator Hubert HUMPHREY - says almost 11 million people in United States without gainful employment.] [Labor statistics commissioner Julius SHISKIN - admits US in 1 of deepest and most widespread recessions in United States history. Historically, sharp recessions followed by vigorous recoveries.] Committee recommends Congress pass tax cut at least as big as President proposes.
