(Studio) Oil from Alaska pipeline to begin flowing in summer. 1 concern re: shipment was docking of supertankers, but trial run completed successfully.

(Valdez, AK) Tanker "Arco Fairbanks" negotiates Valdez Narrows into Valdez harbor to terminal with sophisticated radar equipment. [Captain Thomas DeTEMPLE - says there was no trouble.] Captain is asked re: consequences of power and steering loss. [DeTEMPLE - says with power loss, ship could be steered thru; with loss of both, ship would be in trouble anywhere, but feels there's plenty of room here.] Training program for supertanker capts., aboard "Fairbanks," to begin soon.
