(Studio) President Carter has as guest today man who walked 100's of mile to shake candidate Carter's hand last year and ended by being scorned by neighbors.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner

(DC) Travis Britt heard Carter's acceptance speech at Democratic national conv., promising to end discrimination; was impressed so walked from Washington, DC to Plains, Georgia, to greet Carter. But on return, finds black support for Carter not universal; Britt was mocked and son, Toby, taunted at school. [BRITT - cites harassment he recd.; says he was more concerned with that son received at school.] [Toby BRITT - cites taunts recd.] President sends letter to Britt and invites him and Toby to White House; meeting takes place today.
