(Studio) Michigan court rules in suit of women filing for damages from drug mfrs. because mothers took DES during pregnancy.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner
(Detroit, Michigan) Judge Thomas Roumell rules against women because they don't have prescriptions to identify drugs and mfrs. Noting emotional issue involved, Roumell says ruling based strictly on law. [ROUMELL - would be improper to rule on basis of sympathy.] Lynn Levine is member of group trying to sue; case noted. [LEVINE - says sympathy shouldn't play part; drug companies were negligent.] [Drug company attorney Lane BAUER - says companies not responsible, because medical art state was such they couldn't know of side effects.] Levine enters hospital Wednesday for exam. of lump to see if cancer has spread.
