(Studio) In Rome, Italy, Pope Paul VI celebrates midnight Mass in Saint Peter's basilica; is televised around world. (Film of service shown.) Pope's remarks with regard to birth of Christ noted. Christmas celebration had beginning in Bethlehem.

(Bethlehem, Israel) Report on Bethlehem's Christmas celebrations. Weather in Judean hills mild for parades; Jewish police band entertainment and presence of Israeli troops noted. Last to arrive in Manger Square is Catholic Church group led by Latin patriarch of Jerusalem. Other 2 celebrations are those of Eastern Orthodox sects and Armenian Church. Latin patriarch holds service in Saint Catherine's Church next to Grotto of the Nativity, where tradition says Christ was born.
