(Studio) American Dorothy Hamill takes lead in women's figure skating.
REPORTER: John Chancellor

(Innsbruck, Austria) Everyone, incling. Russians, watch Hamill, 19, skate. She has chance to win gold medal Friday night. [HAMILL - says wants to do her best; doesn't think about gold medal.] [Father Chalmers HAMILL - says Dorothy presented self in engaging way also when younger.] Her coach, Carlo Fassi, is on Italy's figure skating team. Dorothy's family except for mother attend most of her performances. Her father has never missed any. [C. HAMILL - says just there in case she wants something.] [D. HAMILL - has good chance to win if she skates well and consistently.]
