(Studio) Campaigning for Sunday election in Portugal ends.
REPORTER: John Chancellor

(Lisbon, Portugal) Food shortages occurring. Exports falling off. Unemployment is 15%. Frustrations of refugees and poor economy led to resurgence of right-wing. Center Democrats expected to make big gains in elections. There is backlash against Communists Socialist party led by Mario Soares struggles to stay Portugal's number 1 party Mil. agrees to phase itself out of pols., but will be on alert to insure freedom of Sunday's elections. Apathy noted.
