(Studio) Senator Armed Services Committee okays $32 billion military hardware bill. Ford request for $1 billion to expand Navy turned down.
REPORTER: John Chancellor

(DC) Defense Department film shown. Committee says not enough funds to build another nuclear aircraft carrier, 4 frigates, 1 nuclear attack submarine and nuclear strike cruiser. [Chairperson John STENNIS - says Navy won't decline to an inferior position.] Most of Ford's original military budget request okayed. Committee repeals rule that major combat ships be nuclear powered. House committee favors nuclear power.
