(Convention Floor) Credentials committee gave their report and permanent officers were nominated. Wisconsin rules committee member Mike Bleicher intros. resolution to allow debate of 3 platform issues. [BLEICHER - says delegates have right to discuss what comes before conv.] Bleicher made speech during network news.

(Studio) Formal adoption of Democratic party's platform to occur tonight.

(Convention Floor) Platform offers major new spending programs. Proposals incl.: national health insurance, guaranteed annual income and full employment econ. There is plank to pardon Vietnam draft dodgers and to cut defense spending $5-7 billion if world situation permits. Platform approval expected.

(Studio) Jimmy Carter asks for support from New Jersey uncommitted delegates. He worked on acceptance speech and his Vice President choice. Carter's wife says he hasn't made up mind with regard to Vice President Press secretary Jody Powell says Vice President field not narrowed to 2.

(NYC) [CARTER - compares his popularity with press now and a year ago.] Carter speaks to New Jersey delegates. [CARTER - shouldn't underestimate Republican strength.] Carter works on speech in hotel suite and meets with staff. He'll announce his Vice President choice Thursday [POWELL - says Carter hasn't narrowed his choice for Vice President from 6 to 2.] Powell says it would suit Carter fine if California Governor Jerry Brown was nominated for President He denies Carter trying for convention drama with Vice President situation.
