(Plains, Georgia) [CARTER - commends Schweiker but is surprised Reagan picked running mate so early and surprised at Reagan's choice.] Carter says Democrats will do well in Schweiker's home state of Pennsylvania. Carter and his Vice President choice, Senator Walter Mondale, listen to defense policy experts. Ex-dep. Defense Secretary Cyrus Vance present. [CARTER - says there are circumstances under which nuclear weapons would be used.] Carter advisers agree that the 2 super powers are equal in nuclear strength.
