(Studio) Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall says federal government may lease rights for offshore drilling along New York, New Jersey and Delaware coasts.

(NYC) Representatives of oil and gas companies in New York City to bid on land, but bidding delayed while Marshall studied case. New York and local govts. and National Resources Defense Council say off-shore drilling will endanger environment and threaten beaches along coastline. Potential wealth of natural gas and oil in Baltimore Canyon noted. Govt. says delay in tapping resources will increase US dependence on foreign oil. Oil companies say 3 years before oil product begins here.
