(Studio) President' plan to withdraw ground troops from South Korea supported by chairperson joint chiefs of staff, General George Brown. Brown and Undersecretary State Philip Habib just back from South Korea.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner
(DC) Brown and Habib agree with President; disagree with General John Singlaub's belief that move could lead to war. [BROWN - hasn't heard any senior American and South Korean officers claim move dangerous.] [Undersecretary State HABIB - knows troop removal possible without danger. Moves by South Korea or China at this time would be irrational.]
REPORTER: Herbert Kaplow
