(Studio) Labor Department announces rise in cost of living for August, meaning inflation conts. slow, steady rise.

(Studio) If present rate of increase conts., rate of inflation will be higher than President Ford predicted for end of year; many products causing it.

(DC) Rise in cost of living for last few mos. noted; in election year, trend could make difference in voting. Ford forces say costs not going up as fast as in past few years; Jimmy Carter says inflation not getting better under present policies.
