(Studio) Pol. situation in Israel becomes more confused after December resignation of Prime Min. Yitzhak Rabin and Monday's suicide of minister of housing Avraham Ofer, who was being investigated for corruption.
REPORTER: John Chancellor

(Tel Aviv, Israel) Report on political situation with regard to probes of corruption in government in Israel. Rabin officially asked to head caretaker government till elections by Israeli President Ephraim Katzir; Rabin hopes to get support to win again in elections but corruption issue is problem now. Background on Ofer and informal charges against him noted; Ofer shot self on beach outside Tel Aviv. Rabin and Ofer's trip to town of Yamez, south of Gaza, noted. Land involved in charges is near Jerusalem; probe drove Ofer to despair. [Parliament member Aryeh ELIAV - notes conversation with Ofer.] Charges from opposition with regard to souring of Rabin's Labor party noted.
