(Studio) Federal crop report notes record corn and soybean crops; but there is so much, there's no room to store it all.
REPORTER: David Brinkley
(Stromsburg, Nebraska) Farmers near Silver Creek, Nebraska, began lining up before dawn to get grain stored in elevator. [Farmer Bruce KERSHAW - says worry about storage drives farmers crazy.] [Elevator manager Vance GORDON - notes elevators almost full before harvest started.] Few of farmers here plan to sell grain yet, because of low price; instead will borrow money from federal government with grain as collateral, and store grain, waiting for price to go up. [Maurice WATTS - says storing grain won't help anyone, unless they've got outlet for it.] Some grain is already being stored on ground and farmers say more will be if things don't change.
