(Studio) House approves new energy department; bill goes to conference committee with Senator Action comes after President Carter meets with key energy legislators.
REPORTER: Barbara Walters

(DC) Carter meets with House Ways and Means Committee mbrs., but members say afterwards they're still not sure with regard to passage of taxes President wants. Details with regard to energy department responsibilities noted; will take over duties of FPC, Federal Energy Administration and ERDA. Bill doesn't give department secretary James Schlesinger power to set and regulate energy prices. Work on energy policy now begins in earnest; both hses. expected to have bill by mid-autumn.
