(Studio) Mobile County, Alabama, Sheriff and Other Law Enforcement Officials Are Indicted By Federal Grand Jury; Are Charged with allowing convicted killer to escape & then killing him in ambush.
REPORTER: John Chancellor

(Mobile, Alabama) [Defense attorney Tom HAAS - cites number of men in indictment.] Indictments come after probe of death, during escape attempt, of Louis Wallace. Grand jury reasons for indictment of sheriff Tom Purvis and others for conspiracy noted. Chief deputy Chad. Wimblerly is charged, but will make no comment. Head jailer John McCorvey is also charged. [McCORVEY - didn't believe it could happen, but must live by justice system.] Hearing is set for July 7.
