[Barber Otis BROWN - cites Lance's good reputation.] [Store operator J.D. WHITFIELD - says Lance the best.] [Restaurant employee Tom SMITH - believes Lance tried to buy gov's. office. This began his troubles.] Calhoun blames DC for Lance raw deal. Jimmy Carter campaign recalled. Attitude of town summed up in quote from woman, who said even if Lance guilty, he had her sympathy, and should be left alone.
