(Studio) Background of admitted embezzlement case involving Columbia Pictures pres. David Begelman given and his resignation today reported.
REPORTER: David Brinkley

(Los Angeles, California) Details of Begelman's troubles with Columbia, include forgery of signature of actor Cliff Robertson on check, outlined; Begelman's other troubles with Judy Garland's former husband Sid Luft reported Luft's charges of attempts by Begelman and Freddie Fields to embezzle money from Garland when they were her agents stated. Luft noted as producer of Garland's movie, "A Star Is Born." [LUFT - claims Begelman and Fields tried to embezzle money from Garland. Says Begelman forged Garland's name on checks, as he did Robertson's and that he has such checks.] Luft's claims with regard to tape recording of conversation between Begelman and Fields detailed; preparations for civil case against 2 men noted. Begelman's refusal to comment and remarks of Fields' attorney with regard to case cited.
