(Studio) Environmental Protection Agency chgs. against Volkswagen of America, alleging company cheated consumers on some of 1975 and 1976 models in removing exhaust controls, reported.

(DC) Details of case and Environmental Protection Agency chgs. against Volkswagen of American and dealers in 10 states given; models involved are VW Rabbit and Sciroccos. [EPA spokesperson Marvin DURNING - notes number of cars possibly affected and that each one tested so far has had problem. Environmental Protection Agency would like to know how all dealerships in United States decided to commit these actions all at once.] EPA plans to prosecute others for illegal tampering with pollution control devices on other cars noted.
