(Alexandria, Virginia) Details of recall, mostly of models from AMC's 1976 line, given; affected models listed. Additional recalls in California, due to stricter anti-pollution laws, noted. Problem in cars, causing nitrogen oxide to escape, described. [EPA deputy administration Barbara BLUM - says auto exhaust is still top air pollution problem in urban areas.] EPA expectations with regard to number of car owners who will bring in cars for repair stated. Environmental Protection Agency test center in Virginia mentioned.
