(Studio) New highway bill pending in Congress, providing for new construction and funds for enforcing weight limits on trucks reported Impt. of enforcing weight limits stated.

(DC) Damage to Interstate 95 in Virginia given as example of what federal officials say is damage due to trucks weighing more than allowed by law. Reasons for overloads, according to congress testimony, given. [American Trucking Assns. spokesperson Edward KILEY - states reasons American trucking industry not responsible for incrd. amts. spent on damaged roads.] [Federal Highway Admin. chief William COX - notes that heavier vehicle is, faster it wears out pavement. Says way to stop this is to rigidly enforce weight limits.] Highway Admin. threats to cut off funds to several states if weight limits not enforced and states' responses reported.
