(Studio) Tennessee's early replacement of out-going Governor Ray Blanton because of large number of pardons Blanton was granting in last days in office reported.

(Nashville, Tennessee) [Tennessee Governor Lamar ALEXANDER - says these aren't happy days for state or for self.] Alexander's early oath taking reported done to prevent Blanton from freeing more state prisoners. Former governor's actions earlier in week with regard to commutations recalled. Blanton's response to swearing in noted. [BLANTON - comments.] Federal grand jury probe of several Blanton admin. officials in pardons and paroles payoff scandal reported [ALEXANDER - says United States attorney's information on possible planned release of prisoners who are subjects of probe was reason for early oath taking.]
