(Studio) President Carter reported spking. at Chicago fundraiser tonight for Mayor Jane Byrne; Byrne's earlier remarks, criticizing Carter, recalled.

(Chicago, Illinois) Byrne recalled succeeding Richard Daley; her remarks earlier in summer with regard to Carter recalled. [Jane BYRNE - says present administration isn't doing enough for major cities.] Byrne's fondness for Kennedys mentioned. Carter's promotional efforts with mayor since then outlined, include sending Byrne as representative to funeral of Lord Mountbatten; federal funds given Chicago, O'Hare Airport, visits by Rosalynn Carter noted. [BYRNE - replies to question with regard to if now supporting Carter.] Mayor's clarification of that statement given.
