(Studio) President Carter's meeting with congress leaders with regard to solution to coal strike and union and coal operators' announcement of willingness to return to bargaining table reported.
REPORTER: Frank Reynolds

(DC) Urging of Govs. Julian Carroll, Jay Rockefeller and James Rhodes that miners and operators get back to bargaining stated. Is noted that operators' negotiating group is known as Bituminous Coal Operators Association (BCOA). [ROCKEFELLER - says negotiators not far apart and BCOA must feel pressure.] Govs.' request for BCOA to make agreement similar to that made on Monday by Pittsburgh and Midway Coal Company and that government hold off on drastic action. [ROCKEFELLER - cites efforts of govs. to hold off drastic action by anyone.] BCOA letter to Rockefeller quoted. [UMW (United Mine Workers of America, International Union) president Arnold MILLER - says they'll only negotiate what is on table.] Congress leaders' reported advice to Carter and P and M agreement as base for new negotiations noted.
