(Studio) Background of embezzlement scandal at Columbia Pictures, involving pres. David Begelman, and his resignation today reported.

(Hollywood, California) Columbia's success under Begelman's director described, incl. that of movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." Photos shown. Begelman's telephone call to Hollywood columnist Rona Barrett in middle of Sunday night noted. [BARRETT - cites Begelman's statement to her re: resignation.] Justice Department probe of Hollywood as result of publicity with regard to Begelman case, and changes brought about several years ago by similar probe, mentioned. [BARRETT - details effect of previous investigation and resulting changes. Believes if anything seriously wrong is found now, it might kill Hollywood.]
