(Studio) President Sadat's farewell visit to President Carter noted.

(DC) [CARTER - quotes Bible with regard to peacemaker's; calls Sadat world's foremost peacemaker.] [SADAT - came here disheartened, but will return with more perseverance for peace efforts.] Lack of major policy changes in visit and word with regard to arms sales to Egypt, as well as no solid United States pledge to lean on Israel but promise to take more intensive role in peace efforts, reported.

(DC) Report on Sadat's efforts to gain support from United States for peace efforts, in order to bolster own standing with Egyptian people and other Arabs. Potential for failure of present peace effort and for Sadat as Egyptian leader, without Israeli gesture comparable to Sadat's gesture last November cited, as Sadat apparently views situation.
