(Studio) Senator approval of Canal Treaty amendment providing for United States right to intervene military in order to keep Canal open reported.
REPORTER: Harry Reasoner
(DC) Update on Senator's decision on treaty. Undecided status of Senators Brooke, Nunn and Talmadge, and demands of latter 2 with regard to United States military bases in Canal Zone, reported [NUNN - thinks White House more receptive to idea recently.] Senator DeConcini's discussions with Vice President Mondale noted. [DeCONCINI - won't vote for treaty unless something in it binds Panama to it.] Predictions that President and other proponents will compromise and treaty will pass noted.
